Sunday Dinner

Through our Sunday Dinner events we address food insecurity, promote community well-being, and strengthen neighborhood bonds—one meal at a time.

East Kinston is recognized as a food desert, meaning that residents have limited access to affordable and nutritious food. Our Sunday Dinner events aim to combat this issue by providing free, healthy meals and connecting the community with resources to improve food security.

Hosted on the third Sunday of each month, our Sunday Dinner events are designed to bring together residents of East Kinston and beyond, creating a warm and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy a meal, share stories, and participate in various programs.

What to Expect:

  • Community Bonding: Sunday Dinner is more than just a meal; it's an opportunity to connect with your neighbors, make new friends, and strengthen our community ties. These events are attended by community members from all walks of life, and every corner of our city.

  • Family-Friendly Activities: Each dinner offers something for everyone—with activities ranging from arts and crafts for kids, board games, or healthy cooking demonstrations!

  • Resource Sharing: Learn about local resources, programs, and services available to support you and your family. Some of the resources we have offered include: a mobile grocery store, Medicaid enrollment from Healthy Blue, vaccinations and immunizations, parent support programs, and more.

Sponsorship and Ways to Support

The Nitty Gritty

Since 2022, Kinston Teens has hosted a “Sunday Dinner” event at our East Kinston Neighborhood Hub to foster connections, promote community engagement, and provide essential resources to our neighbors. These events bring together residents from all walks of life for a delicious meal, lively conversation, and a sense of belonging. They also serve as an opportunity for us to provide information about our programs and services, as well as to gather feedback from the community on how we can better serve their needs. These Sunday Dinners are hosted on the third Sunday of each month at an estimated cost of $1,000 per dinner. Each dinner serves approximately 150 community members, with recent attendance upwards of 200. Meals typically consist of an entree, two sides, bread, dessert, and a drink. These events take place at the East Kinston Neighborhood Hub and are open to the entire community.
